The Executive comprises 15 members from among the members of the Collegium, with three representatives per geo-cultural group, elected by universal suffrage for a two-year term of office.
The President of ISAU is elected by universal suffrage from among the members of the Collegium for a two-year term of office. The term of office of the President shall, as far as possible, be held by a member of each of the geo-cultural groups in turn. The President may be re-elected for a maximum of two consecutive terms of office.
The President presides over the work of the Executive and represents the Association vis-à-vis the Director-General and the bodies with which ISAU cooperates under Article I(c) of its Statutes.
The President is assisted by an assistant from another geo-cultural group, elected for a two-year term of office.
The Secretariat of the Executive consists of an Executive Secretary.
The geo-cultural groups : ISAU comprises five geo-cultural groups:
- Africa
- Latin America and the Caribbean
- Asia and the Pacific
- Arab States
- Europe and North America
Each member of a geo-cultural group has one vote.
The go-cultural groups constitute the very foundation of the representativeness of ISAU within the Secretariat. They are equally represented in the Collegium.
- Away from headquarters, members of ISAU shall form national or regional committees as laid down in the Rules of Procedure of ISAU. National and regional committees shall be the Association’s organs of expression at their respective levels. As such, they shall play a full part in formulating ISAU’s general policy in close co-operation with their respective geo-cultural groups. Within this framework the committees shall draw up a local policy for the Association to which the latter shall give all the support needed to gain the Director-General’s approval.
The Executive meets regularly, as convened by the President, who determines its agenda and chairs its meetings. The Executive reports to the Collegium for its stewardship as necessary, and at least once a year.
